Acapulco / Mexico

If you talk about the "place of the thick reed", probably only the Náhuatl-Indians know, that the world famous bathing resort of Mexico, Acapulco is meant. The nature port, which had been completed as the most important harbour of the pacific in 1530 by the spaniard Hernán Cortés, was the starting point for expeditions to the South Sea and Asia. The environment of Acapulco has a lot to offer. Mexico City is connected through a highway with Acapulco. Mexico City has probably more than 30 million residents and thus is the largest city in the world.

Acapulco de Juarez is also called "Pearl of the Pacific". Its 6-kilometre widespread bay, named "Santa Lucia" offers an unforgettable skyline by day and at night. Acapulco has probably around 2 million residents. The "Sierra Madre del Sur" ends directly at the doors of Acapulco and surrounds the bay with a 400-m-high mountain range. Acapulco is today one of the best-known bathing resorts of Mexico. Tourists from all over the world as well as many locals enjoy perfect conditions all-year-round, with an average water temperature of 25 degrees and even in the rainy season (May-October), rainshowers last only for a short time. Cliff-jumping is a century-old tradition. The fisherman of Acapulco, who came back from their catch, demonstrated their courage by climbing 35m up to a cliff to then jump into the only 5-m deep sea. Locals gathered daily at the same time at this place, to view the spectacle. In the thirtees, the first tourists joined and today it is probably the best-known tourist attraction of Acapulco. You get the best sight from the restaurant "La Perla", the former roaming place of stars and celebrities. The "Mercado Central" offer everything from exotic spices for the home kitchen to hand painted ceramics and spiritual advisers. At the "Mercado Parazal" all can make a find who would like to view or buy real craftwork. silver jewellery, leather, ceramics or traditional mexican clothing. By the catamaran "Aka Tiki" or by the "Bonanza Boat", the bay of Acapulco can be viewed from the seaside. Or you just take from the shore a glassbottom-boat, which takes you from the main land to the island "Roquetta". The "Coyuca Lagoon" was the location for "Rambo II" and offers a breathtaking scenery for all nature fans. The largest Indio-pyramid-system of the world "Teothiuacan" should defenitely be seen. Other trip destinations are the silver citiyTaxco and Oaxaca.
