Arutua, Tuamotu Archipelago / Polynesia
Arutua is an atoll Atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago belonging to the Îles Palliser. Its name means translated as much as "wave of the high seas". As first European, the Dutch navigator Jacob Roggeveen discovered the atoll. Today about 800 people live on Arutua, the majority of them in the main settlement Rautini.
The beautiful large lagoon Arutua which opens via a small passage to the sea, is used by the inhabitants, among other things for fishing and pearl farming.
