Brisbane is the state capital of Queensland in northeast Australia.
The city lies on the Brisbane River near its estuary mouth with the Coral Sea, with 1.73 million inhabitants (in the metropolitan area). Brisbane was founded in 1824 as a penal colony and is named after the then Ggvernor of New South Wales, Sir Thomas Brisbane.
Brisbane is known for the holiday paradises Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast that start north and south of the city limits, for the seaside location and the generally good weather.
Queensland's capital is a vibrant million-city with relaxing flair characterized by subtropical climate.
