Coquimbo (La Serena) / Chile
Coquimbo, together with the neighboring town of La Serena is the center of Chile's "little north". The city has about 170,000 inhabitants and is closely linked to the pirate Francis Drake. The port plays an important role as an export port, particularly for the east. In the harbor are two shipwrecks.
In Coquimbo there is a beautiful picturesque waterfront and a nice fish market. Monumental and from anywhere visible the 92- m-high monument is the cross of the third millennium on the highest mountain in the city. Coquimbo is also a place of pilgrimage. From the nearby town of Los Vilos you can visit the island of La Reine.
