Curacao / Caribbean
Curacao is the largest island of the former Netherlands Antilles and is located in the south of the Caribbean, off the coast of Venezuela. Most of the population is concentrated in the capital city of Willemstad.
With its savanna-like vegetation, the island of Curacao exudes a special charm. From the peel of bitter oranges (Seville oranges), which grow on the island, the Curaçao liqueur, named after the island, is produced. The shells are macerated and thereby preserved in alcohol, which dissolves flavoring and coloring agents. Then blue, rarely red dyes are added. Depending on the color, the beverage is then referred to as "Blue Curaçao" or "Red Curaçao".
