Edfu / Egypt
The small town of Edfu with its approximately 30.00 inhabitants is located about 100 km from Luxor upstream on the Nile. The city is a commercial center with sugar factories and ancient pottery industry. It is slightly elevated on the west bank of the stream, which has spanned a bridge here since 1969. The convenient location allowed the town to become an important commercial city.
The temple of Horus is approximately 2.000 years old and has been preserved almost completely. The size of the temple as well as the two black granite hawks, which flank the first column at the entrance, are very impressive. The entire temple as well as the walls around it are full of stunning relifes depicting the history of the temple's construction and from the life of Horus.
