Haifa / Israel

Haifa is with its approximately 247,000 inhabitants the third largest city in Israel after Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The city is located in the north of the country, on the northern slope of Mount Carmel to the Mediterranean and is Israel's largest port. Its name is mentioned the first time in the Talmud (3rd century AD) Haifa won with the advent of the steamship in the 19th century considerable importance. Today the town is mainly an important industrial center.

The Louis Promenade, a hillside scenic route offers a great view over the city. On a clear day you can see from there across the Bay of Haifa to Mount Hermon. West of the town is a cave that, according to legend, is said to have served the prophet Elijah as a dwelling. Not far away you will find one of the two Carmelite monasteries of Mount Carmel. The Dagon Complex is the only grain elevator in the world with integrated museum. The history of corn is shown here very clearly. In the street Rehov Hazionut art lovers can visit the Chagall House. It was named after the artist who visited the city in the year 1960.Here changing exhibitions of contemporary art are shown.
