Leixoes (Porto) / Portugal
The great port Leixões on the Portuguese Atlantic coast lies north of Porto and is in itself a small attraction that makes the stay for visitors easy.
Opposite the port there are restaurants for the hungry stomach. But off the port a bus departs towards Porto, and this little trip gives you the opportunity to get to know the city of portwine properly. In many Port wine cellars you can trace the genesis of this specialty. In addition, some churches are worthwhile: the Misericórdia Church because of the world famous painting "Fons Vitae", the Cedofeita because it is the oldest church on the square, the cathedral for its azulejos decorations and of course the Clérigos, the highest church tower in Portugal with wonderful views. Two quarters should go to the heart of visitors: the Foz do Douro as a former wealthy neighborhood on the Douro with its fashionable flair and the entirely opposite Ribeira, a chaotic and extraordinary district. You best use for the exploration the city public transportation: you get less tired, save time and with the low tour pass save money.
