Marigot Bay, St. Lucia / Caribbean
Marigot Bay is located on the island of St.Lucia. It belongs to the leeward islands under the wind and is the second largest island of the small Antilles. The main feature of the island are the wooded mountains, which extend from north to south and are intersected by river valleys. The highest elevation of the country is the Mount Gimie with 950 m. In the southwest lies Qualibou, an area with 18 lava domes and 7 craters. In the west, the access to the Jalousie Plantation Harbor is marked by the twin pitons (Gros Piton, 797 m and Petit Piton, 750 m), 2 peaks steeply rising 800 m and the island's landmark.
Formerly the bay was optimal protection of pirates. Today anchor here the finest yachts in the world and of course the cruise ships. The author James Mitchner described Marigot Bay as one of the most beautiful bays in the Caribbean and he was not the only one who was captivated by it. Due to its unspoilt nature the bay served as an ideal venue for several Hollywood films. Dr. Doolittle in 1967, was the first film; followed by Firepower 1979 Superman II 1980, Water 1985 , White Squall 1994 and Creature 1998. An extra viewing platform was built to view the Marigot Bay from a higher vantage point. Of course, there are also the usual souvenir shops and fast food restaurants.
