The provincial capital of El Minia with approximately 150,000 inhabitants is located about 230 km south of Cairo at the middle reaches of the Nile. El Minia is the center of Egyptian cotton trade and offers the visitor a fascinating insight into the colorful oriental life. The city with its beautiful squares and the wide promenade, the Nile is here about 1 km wide, together with the very friendly nature of the inhabitants, welcome every visitor.
In the city itself you can visit a particularly interesting museum and a mosque from the Fatimid Caliphate, the so-called Lamati Mosque. As a starting point for sightseeing trips to Beni Hassan, Tell el Amarna and Hermopolis Magna, El Minia is also very suitable.
