Mukran, Rügen / Germany
Mukran is a district of the town of Sassnitz, a state-approved resort, on the peninsula Jasmund in the northeast of the island Rügen in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The town of Sassnitz is the most important tourist starting point to the Jasmund National Park, Germany's smallest national park. The royal seat, a 118-m-high chalk cliff, is the main tourist attraction of the National Park.
Since March 2004, the National Park has the Royal King's National Park Center, which offers visitors at two different exhibitions an insight into the natural events, chalk, Baltic Sea and beech forests of the National Park. Not far from new Mukran is the home of Europe's unique fire stone fields. Consisting about 90% of fire stone arose the area which is 200m wide and 2km long about four thousand years ago, when a torrential flood swept the firestones on land. To the south is a kilometer-long sandy beach, which is used by nudist trailers and animal lovers.
