The port of Piraeus is famous all over the world: it is not only one of the most important ports of the Mediterranean Sea and port for the capital Athens, but it also has a long history that goes well beyond the Christian era. It served as a trading port in the ancient Greek times. Thus, the port is also the greatest attraction of Piraeus.
The port has been divided into three parts since ancient times: Kantharos (the actual trading port), Zea and Munichia. You can find more details at the Archaeological Museum as well as at the Marine Museum. If you have enough time, you should visit Athens itself, as this city is the birthplace of Western civilization and democracy, and offers manymore archaeological treasures, such as, the Acropolis. In the old town district "Plaka" you will find a huge selection of taverns, handicrafts and souvenir shops and not least the world famous flea market.
