Probolinggo, Java / Indonesia
The city of Probolinggo is located on the north coast of Java, in the Indonesian archipelago of the Great Sunda Islands. At colonial times - and partly even today - the city was an important center for the sugar refining and the export of the finished product. Probolinggo is also famous for its mangoes.
The main attraction around Probolinggo is, without doubt, the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park around the name-giving volcanoes Semeru and Bromo. The numerous animal species, including countless birds, leopards, monkeys, dholes and marbled cats, make a hike through the park an incredibly exciting experience. Not far from the city itself, the restored Buddhist Jabung Temple, built in 1354, awaits your visit. To strengthen you should definitely taste the juicy sweet mangos, which are offered here everywhere.
