Puerto Montt / Chile
Puerto Montt is located in the south of Chile on a wide Pacific bay. The city is set against the backdrop of snow-capped volcanoes, the harbor is busy and in the restaurants and food stalls there are fresh fish directly from the sea. Despite its 160,000 inhabitants, Puerto Montt has preserved the charm and cosiness of a small town.
The city itself offers a craft market and fish specialties in the fishing port of Angelmo. From Puerto Montt, it is a catwalk to the surrounding unspoiled national parks with rainforests and volcanoes as well as to the legendary island of Chiloé. Off Puerto Montt lies the island of Tenglo, a worthwhile destination, as is Llanquihue Lake, a large lake north of the city. Especially the lakes region around Puerto Montt is worth seeing. Traveling by sea kayak through the bays and fjords of Northern Patagonia is a real experience.
