Puntarenas / Costa Rica
The port town of Puntarenas is located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica in the Gulf of Nicoya. Here, the railway line crosses the country from west to east ends, which is why the historic harbor is also of great importance. The city with a population of about 40,000 inhabitants is surrounded by a beautiful landscape.
The fantastic Manuel Antonio National Park is one of the many places around the city. You can see the dense and untouched rainforest, numerous bird species and lots of other animals. Hikes are highly recommended.
But if you prefer to relax a bit from the rice nest, you can use the long beaches (best outside of the city) to relax in the sun or to swim or snorkel. In the city itself there are also cafes by the sea and good restaurants with delicious fish dishes.
