Sandnessjoen, Alsten Island / Norway
Alsten is an island in Norway belonging to the region Nordland where the town of Sandnessjøen lies. Nearly 6,000 people live in Sandnessjøen. The island is visited not only for its rich bird and marine life, but also because of "syv søstre" (the Seven Sisters), a mountain range of seven snowcapped peaks right on the coast.
In terms of fish there are mainly herring and halibut here, in terms of birds, a large density of sea eagles and cormorants. There are also otters, seals and occasionally orca whales.
But the ascent of the Seven Sisters is a must when visiting Sandnessjøen. They are up to 1072 meters high and are a truly bizarre sight, as they lie almost in a wavy way side by side.
