Santa Cruz, Tenerife (Canary Islands) / Spain
Santa Cruz is the capital of the Canary Island of Tenerife and one of the largest shipping ports in the world; Some 200,000 people live here. The city is located in the north of the island, on a large bay with an imposing mountain backdrop in the background.
The shopping possibilities of the city are excellent, there are great and cheap offers. There are numerous shops from the "Plaza de España" near the port to the "Plaza de Candelaria". Worth seeing is the church Nuestra Señora de la Conceptión, not far from Plaza de España, as well as the market Nuestra Señora de Africa. The "Rambla del General Franco" is a large promenade with cafes and bars and the bullring arena of the city.
The city itself is also an excellent starting point for the discovery of the northeast of the island, e.g. to the popular beach Las Teresitas.
