South Shetland Islands / Antarctic

The subantarctic archipelago of the Southern Shetland Islands lies west of the Antarctic Peninsula in the Arctic Ocean. The island group consists of eleven larger islands and a number of several smaller islands. Measured by the geographic location, the climate is relatively mild, which is also one of the reasons for the numerous research centers located here.

A fascinating world of snowy mountains and glaciated fjords awaits you during your visit to the southern Shetland Islands. Particularly interesting is Deception Island on whose southeast coast lives a gigantic colony of penguins lives. On this island you also have the unique opportunity to dive into Antarctic waters, warmed by a sunken volcano. The Livingston Island, with its penguins and elephants, also invites you to enjoy magnificent animal observations. Also visit one of the numerous research stations of the island group. Whichever of the islands you will call at during your visit: you will not soon forget too soon the impressions of a breathtaking landscape.
