Trier / Germany

As the oldest city in Germany, Trier is also one of the country's greatest attractions. In 16 BC it was founded in place of a Celtic settlement. Worth seeing are some Roman buildings, which are among the best-preserved Roman buildings in Germany. Today Trier has more than 120,000 inhabitants, including many students, so that the city is a unique blend of the past and lively modern city, which is by no means only "backdrop".

The most imposing and amazing Roman building is Porta Nigra in the north of the city. It was once part of the fortifications and is very well preserved. Not far from here towards the south, you will immediately discover the main market, the actual center of the city center. For example, here stand the medieval cathedral and the Gothic Church of Our Lady both worth a visit. A little further to the south you will be taken back to the Roman period: Aula Palatina (today church), royal therm baths and amphitheater of which unfortunately only few remains are to be seen. The Rhine State Museum is also worth a visit with a comprehensive collection of early history.
In Trier, you are also lucky that the city is located directly on the beautiful Moselle, so you can stroll along the river after the busy city tour or simply enjoy the life in the city center.
