Amada / Egypt
The temple of El Amada is located at the west bank of Lake Nasser, 200 kilometres south of Assuan. Pharaoh Tutmosis III. constructed the system in honour to god Amun-Re.
The nubian pharaoh-fortress of Kasr Ibrim, the sanctuary of Amada and its 800-ton-heavy colossus, have been displaced due to a flood of the dam, to a higher plateau, 3 kilometres off its original place and brought there to safety. The well preserved nubian temple could not be serrated due to the plaster-layers with coloured relief and was therefore inched on special constructed railway platforms within 6 months to its new destination.
