In La Romana on Santo Domingo live 100,000 people. The city is located on the south coast of the island of Hispaniola.
The inhabitants are mainly working in the large sugar factory. The town, which is nestled in a very beautiful environment, received in 1945 the right of province capital. It is a flourishing region,and home of the "Central Romana", a private sugar factory.
Very impressive for any traveler is the detailed replica of a Spanish colonial town from the 18th century by the name of Altos de Chavón.
