Portsmouth, Dominica / Caribbean
Portsmouth is the second largest city on the island of Dominica with about 3,000 inhabitants and is located in the north of the island. As everywhere on the island, of course, the nature in the area is magnificent, especially the Indian River, the water sports are almost unlimited and in the city are great treats for the hungry stomach. But Portsmouth also has another special attraction: the ruins of Fort Shirley.
Remains of the fort and some guns give a clear picture of the past of the island. Also unique is a boat trip on the Indian River. You come through untouched rainforest, past mangrove forests, waterfalls and many bird species and even swimming in the river is a special experience. On a longer stay, it is also possible to climb the volcanic mountains and enjoy the fabulous scenery and views to the sister islands. As all over Dominica, the sea landscape is also great. There are a lot of different species of fish, gorgeous coral gardens and diving sites, which are also suitable for beginners. But also from the wonderful beaches you can watch whales and dolphins. In the end, you should have a little bit of relaxation in the city during a Caribbean meal.
