St. Maarten (Lesser Antilles) / Caribbean
St. Maarten is a divided island in the Caribbean. The northern part is called St. Martin and belongs to France, the south as St. Maarten to the Netherlands. Both parts have lived peacefully together for over 300 years.
The capital of St. Maarten is Philipsburg. Another city is Maho on the west coast of St. Maarten. On this southern island part of the island live about 40,000 people. St. Maarten consists of wooded mountains, on the coast of white sandy beaches, whereby in the west also many lagoons can be found.
St. Maarten is often visited, because the recreation and sports facilities are almost unlimited. Around the small Caribbean island there are beautiful diving spots, while the mountains offer a ride or a hike. Fun sport is also popular: water skiing, surfing and paragliding are among them.
In Philipsbrug there is a historical museum for those interested. And, of course, you can lie on the beaches everywhere and enjoy the peace that you can experience so far away from everyday stress.
