Hennigsdorf is a town in Brandenburg, north-west of Berlin, located on the Havel. Today it has about 27,000 residents. The town was first mentioned in documents in 1375 as "Heynekendorp". Greater importance attained Henning village that has long remained a small fishing village, only with the establishment of the Berlin industrial enterprises in the early 20th century. The city became famous for an episode in its history: through the march to Berlin of 5,000 industrial workers on June 17,1953 for demonstrations against the East German government.
