Iquitos is located amid the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. After a long struggle of the city to trade in rubber, it is since the beginning of oil production in the 60s again on the way up. The city has boomed since then and has developed into a modern city that has discovered tourism: Mainly from here start tours through the rainforest. Since the city cannot be reached via land, of course, navigation and thus the port of the city take a central position.
Cruise offers to the port Iquitos / Peru
From the time of the rubber boom there are still huge mansions in the city. It was hardly the people who benefited from the boom, but rather the colonizers. Since the city was also originally founded by Jesuits, there are some beautiful old churches to see. Around the central Plaza de Armas you will find the most attractions. Along the Malecón Tarapacá, the waterfront thre bustle takes place especially in the evening.
You can of course start out on a tour through the rainforest, however, you will barely find anything around here of the pristine and untouched rainforest.
