Komiža is a small Croatian port town with about 1,400 inhabitants, located on the west coast of the island of Vis in the Adriatic Sea, at the foot of the 587-m-high mountain Hum. The settlement was first documented in the 12th century. The population lives mainly from agriculture, fishing and tourism.

In the port of Komiža rises the Venetian castle built in 1585. Today in part it hosts a fishing museum. One of the most important exhibits is the Falkusa, an authentic fishing boat which was once used for sardine fishing. Above the town you will find a Benedictine monastery from the 12th century which was established when the monks had to flee from the pirates. About 100 steps lead from the city center to an one-hour walk to the infamous "Tito's Cave", which the dictator Tito had made a while his headquarters for safety reasons. If you want to just relax a little bit, then sit down at one of the small cafes in the harbor line of the city which is closed to motor traffic.
