Longyearbyen / Spitsbergen (Svalbard)

The main town of Longyearbyen on the island of Spitsbergen in the European North Sea is the northernmost city in the world. Just 2,000 people live there. The new city was founded as a coal town, which is why the port played an important role for export. Meanwhile, most of Svalbard's visitors come here at the harbor and continue from there by boat on to other places on Spitzbergen since the road network is not very well developed.
