Mescherin / Germany

Mescherin is the northeasternmost municipality in the district Uckermark and in the federal state Brandenburg.It was founded on December 31,2002 from the union of the until then independent communes Mescherin, Neurochlitz, Radekow und Rosow.The main town Mescherin is located directly on the steep bank of the West Oder, which emerges 10km upstream from the division of the main stream which lies here only 10 cm above sea level.The West Oder is the border river to the Republic of Poland, the parallel flowing East Oder is located permanently on the Polish territory. Two km north of Mescherin the West Oder flows between both banks in Poland.Here begins the approximately 55-km-long section of the land border to Poland, which extends northwards up to Stettiner Haff.
