Natchez, Mississippi / USA East Coast

Natchez, a city with about 20,000 inhabitants, is located on a rocky cliff directly on the Mississippi River in the federal state of Mississippi. It originated from the Fort Rosalie, founded by the French in 1716, which was destroyed shortly afterwards by Indians, but could be rebuilt after a retaliation by the French - this time named after the native Natchez Indian tribe. The settlement changed from the British to the Spanish rule in the course of time and eventually became US-American at the end of the 18th century.
Natchez is not only the starting point of the famous trade route to Nashville, the Natchez Trace, but is also very convenient because of its location directly on the Mississippi. At the beginning of the 19th century, the port became the second largest slave market in the south and was until the Civil War a favorite residence of the Cotton Barons, the rich plantation owners, of which the pompous mansions still testify  today.

Natchez really offers the right program for every taste. The offer ranges from events such as historical balls, parades and festivals to balloon competitions. Sports enthusiasts and lovers of nature will also get their money's worth here. The mild climate makes it possible to do activities such as fishing in the Mississippi, hunting or playing golf all year round.
Of course, the old town itself is really reason enough for a visit. With its imposing Antebellum villas, it not only transports visitors back to the past, but also sends them into raptures. The mansions with their powerful columns can often also be visited from the inside. A guided tour through the "House Rosalie" is absolutely recommended. The impresses especially the Victorian interior.
As a contrast program to so much pomp, some visitors may also like a walk through the port district of Natchez Under the Hill. Once bustled in the bars there a colorful company of rather dubious origin. Today, historical saloons still testify about it. In addition, the modern amusement park has long since settled there, there is a permanently anchored casino ship, many shops and restaurants wherefrom you can enjoy a beautiful sunset over the Mississippi.
