The medieval city center of Trogir is the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic complex in Eastern Europe. The entire old town of Trogir was declared a UNESCO world heritage in 1997 and represents with countless churches, palaces, alleyways, courtyards, archways and stairs a real architectural museum, which sets visitors back across centuries.Architectural highlight is the St. Laurentius Cathedral. The western main portal of 1240 is a masterpiece of Radovan and the most important work in Romanesque-Gothic style in Croatia. The cathedral was built during almost five centuries, from the foundation stone in 1123 to the completion of the church tower in 1610. The bell tower documents the chronological sequence from Romanesque (foundation) to Renaissance (third floor). Located next to the cathedral, the main square of Trogir is one of the most beautiful architectural ensembles of Dalmatia, with its magnificent buildings. Here is also the city museum. The city's promenade leads westwards to the Venetian fortress Kamerlengo, which is located on the edge of the old town, whose inner courtyard is the venue for concerts and plays during the summer months. The most beautiful view of the historical center of Trogir is by the way the island of Čiovo, which is connected by a swing bridge with the old town. From here you can enjoy an incomparable panoramic view of the colorful fishing boats in the harbor, the majestic city walls and filigree church towers.
