With the Völklingen smeltery the city hosts one of the most important industrial monuments in all of Germany. This former ironworks founded 1873 became in 1994 the first industrial monument in the world's list of the UNESCO world cultural heritage. On its premises regular cultural events take place today. Take a long walk or bike ride along the beautiful Saar promenade. In the commune there are also two very beautiful wildlife parks that are a must for any nature lover.
