Windhoek is a harmonious blend of European and African special features. Beautiful buildings of Wilhelmine colonial architecture around the turn of the century,such as St. Mary's Cathedral or the Ink Palace coexist with the architecture of African dominance of which the new building of the Supreme Court is a fabulous example. The city has some very interesting museums, including the National Museum, the Trans Namib Museum or the National Gallery. Admire also one of the three famous city castles: the Heinitzburg from 1914, which is now a luxury hotel, the Schwerin Castle, currently the residence of the Italian Ambassador and Sander Castle, which is now privately owned.
