Before the cruise

Alcohol on board
On cruises up to 7 days, you may bring 2 bottles (750ml) of wine or sparkling wine per cabin / suite and, if traveling as of 8 days, 3 bottles (750ml) of wine or sparkling wine per cabin / suite. You can consume these in the public outdoor areas of the ship, however, a small corkage fee (approximately $ 15, - moreover a 15% gratuity) will be charged to your board account.

Any further alcoholic beverages (wine, beer and / or hard liquor), including those purchased at the port, will be withheld by the Purser and delivered to your cabin on the last evening of the cruise.

Onboard account
You can easily pay on board cashless with your boarding pass. Your account has already been activated upon your arrival, and after registering your credit card on the day of embarkation (American Express®, Discover Card®, Visa® or MasterCard®) you can use your onboard account directly. No debit or prepaid cards are accepted. At the end of the cruise you will receive an overview of your expenses on board.
It is recommended that you advise your credit card provider that the card is used on a Windstar yacht to avoid complications.

The board currency is the USD. On board, no exchange offices are offered in the local currency of the countries visited.

Embarkation
The embarkation time can be found in your itinerary and in your cruise documents. All guests should be on board at least 1 hour before departure. The passports are collected upon embarkation and safely stored at the reception until the end of the cruise.
Flight
Please make sure that your flight and cruise documents are completed and contain your full name. Check in good time whether your departure time has changed. This can occurr without prior notice, depending on the airline.

For international flights, please arrive at the ticket counter at least 3 hours before your scheduled departure time and plan at least 4 hours at the end of your journey between disembarkation and departing flight.

Some countries charge an arrival or departure fee that is not included in the price of the ticket. You pay this at the airport upon check-in and it can be paid either in US dollars or local currency.

Luggage
It is recommended that you restrict your luggage to the most necessary things. Think of warmer as well as practical clothing, especially if you want to take part in shore excursions. These include flat shoes with a good sole.

The dress code on board is casual: for example, chic summer dresses for women, trouser suits or simple evening dresses, gentlemen are asked to wear long trousers in the evening. For example, you can combine a collar shirt or a polo shirt.

There are no formal nights, no costume parties and no obligation for suits and ties. When cruising to Monte Carlo, please note that many casinos deny access to men without a jacket and tie.

Shorts, jeans, hats, flip-flops and T-shirts are not available in the evenings at Amphora Restaurant, Stella Bistro and public areas. Country Club casual is acceptable at Candles.

Carry-on luggage
Please keep your valuables in your hand luggage. These include, for example, air and cruise papers, passports, visas, medicines, glasses, traveler's checks, credit cards, cash, jewelry, and cameras. All carry-on luggage must either fit under the seat or in the overhead storage compartment of the aircraft.

Hygiene and safety concept COVID - 19
Windstar does not require a COVID-19 test for guests upon embarkation (unless requested by one of the countries on the itinerary).Windstar has implemented a vaccination mandate until further notice, requiring all guests to have completed a first of a series of COVID-19 vaccination at least 14 days prior to embarkation and to meet the requirements of the country they are cruising to. It also strongly recommends that you get at least a week before you departure your refresher extra protection if you are eligible.
Immunization
Please ask your family physician if you need special vaccinations for the different destinations. With reference to your personal, medical history, he knows best what is appropriate for you.
Shore excursions
Windstar Cruises offers in cooperation with various excursion partners optional shore excursions. Consider these excursions as a way to get to know the visited countries even better and to get special insights into the respective cultures.

There are many occasions to celebrate! Windstar Cruises will be happy to help you plan your celebration on board. More information is available upon request.

If you would like to organize a spontaneous celebration when you are already on a cruise, please contact the hotel manager.

Gifts on board
Friends and family can have gifts delivered directly to your cabin / suite. All they need to do is pass on the name of your yacht, cabin or suite number and departure date to Windstar Cuises via an order form. Through this order form, various gifts such as alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, flowers and much more can be selected. Please note that orders must be made at least 7 days before departure and that no flowers are available depending on the embarkation country.

Pets
Animals or pets are not allowed except for qualified service animals for disabled guests. Please let us know upon booking whether you will be accompanied by such an animal.

Animals that are not registered and are on board are taken into custody and brought ashore in the next port. The full cost of the corresponding additional expense is borne by the guest who brought the animal on board.

Gratuities & service fees
The crew works very hard to ensure that every aspect of your cruise meets the highest standards. This includes the crew members who serve you directly, such as waiters, butlers or stewards, but there are also others who make your cruise a dream vacation whom you never meet, such as kitchen and laundry staff.

To ensure that the efforts of all crew members are recognized and rewarded, a standard gratuity fee of $ 18,- per passenger per day is automatically added to each onboard guest account. If the service exceeds or does not meet your expectations, you can adjust this amount at the end of the cruise.

There is also a 18% service charge for drinks served at the restaurant.

Gratuities & service fees are paid in full to Windstar crew members and represent an important part of their salary. At terminals, airports, ports and on shore excursions, you are advised to offer gratuities which is common practice in the countries you visit.
Internet access
Windstar Cruises offers a selection of different internet packages, but depending on the course and position of the yacht, this service cannot be guaranteed everywhere. Wi-Fi internet is available on all Windstar yachts. Wi-Fi access is available in most public areas, cabins and suites. Internet packages can be booked upon request before your cruise or at the reception during the journey.

Casual elegance
Enjoy formal nights as well as cozy evenings on your Windstar yacht. Dress completely relaxed according to your personal taste and enjoy the typical casual luxury of windstar to the fullest.

You have the choice between relaxing and unwinding and exciting shore excursions around glittering harbors and exciting cultures. During a Windstar cruise, you decide what you want to experience and when you would rather put your feet up.

Meals
Breakfast
It is morning. You wake up to listen to the gentle trade winds. Time for breakfast! Outdoors, full service or buffet style? You have the choice. The smell of freshly brewed coffee and buttery croissants lures you up onto the porch. As of 06:00 you can enjoy a full continental breakfast by the pool on Wind Star and Wind Spirit or at Compass Rose on Wind Surf. The Yacht Club on Star Pride, Star Breeze and Star Legend serves light breakfast and freshly brewed coffee. Or take it easy and have breakfast in the privacy of your cabin / suite.

Lunch
Here, too, you will be spoiled for choice with the veranda's lush, seemingly endless buffet or order yourself the delicious lunch menu.

Dinner
In the evening it's off into the elegant amphora. You will be guided to your place and enjoy your dinner in an elegant atmosphere. There are no pre-assigned tables or different table times. When and with whom who want to dine is up to you (The respective restaurant opening times can be found in the daily program).

On Wind Surf you can take a trip into the world of French specialties at the unique Stella Bistro and round off with perfectly matched wines.

The Candles offers a romantic atmosphere under the starlit sky and offers a selection of grilled seafood and steak specialties.

Snacks
On Wind Surf, Star Pride, Star Breeze and Star Legend you will find sandwiches and snacks from the Yacht Club all day long and you can enjoy them all over the yacht.

Note
Windstar Cruises offers vegetarian food made especially by the onboard cooks. In addition, the onboard chef will be available to help you choose a light menu upon request.

Kosher and Halal meals are not available.
Medical service
A doctor and limited medical facilities are available on board. If you need special medication, it is recommended that you bring a sufficient amount with a copy of the prescription from your doctor on board. There can be no guarantee that your medication will be available on board.

Medical services and all medications (except acetaminophen, aspirin and seasickness pills) distributed by the yacht doctor will be charged to your onboard account. If you get sick during the journey and the doctor is unable to take care of your needs on board, you will be taken to a medical facility on land. Medical care on land and / or evacuation will not be charged to your on-board account. You are responsible for paying these fees.

If you require special medical equipment, assistance on board or have special medical, physical or other requirements, please specify this fact upon booking.

Personal laundry service
Your personal laundry service is provided on board for a small fee. You can find information and prices in your travel documents. Chemical cleaning is not possible.
Mail
Due to the sometimes very long delivery times, guests cannot receive mail on board. If you want to send postcards or letters yourself, you can hand them in at the ports you visit. Please note that delivery can take a long time depending on the destination.
Smoking
Smoking is prohibited in the cabins, suites or public spaces, including all restaurants and corridors. On the outside decks you will find designated smoking areas where you can stay while smoking.
Watersport platform and activities on board
A common feature of the unique Windstar ships is that they are all equipped with a private water sports platform while the yacht is at anchor and weather conditions allow it to be used.

There is a whole range of different activities available here, e.g. snorkeling equipment, water skiing and wakeboarding,
On some routes, SCUBA diving is offered to PADI-certified divers by a competent, local provider as an optional excursion for a fee. Some ports also offer SCUBA taster sessions with certified teachers.

Note: The water sports platform cannot be used when the yacht is docked or when weather conditions or local regulations prohibit these activities.

Room service
At midday or midnight, or any time in between, we offer 24-hour service for sandwiches, selected canapés, coffee and tea.

Documents and papers

Immigration
All guests must have a valid passport with them. In addition, some countries require an entry visa. US Department of State regulations require that all passports are valid for at least 6 months after the end of the journey. You are responsible for keeping all required documents with you.

Guests without proper documentation can be refused boarding and / or fines. The guest is responsible for paying the fines imposed.

Please inquire at the Federal Foreign Office whether you need one or more visas, vaccinations or similar for the countries you visit on your travel route.

Gratuities and service charge on board of Windstar Cruises
Your onboard account will be automatically charged with a gratuity of USD 13.50 per person / day.
