Alicante, the province capital and university-city, is located at the northern coast of Spain. With its 280,000 residents it is also the most beautiful coastal city in Spain. Among the most interesting buildings are the Baroque town hall, a Baroque masterpiece from the 18th century. In the sumptuous innner rooms are the gigantic triptych Gastón Castelló, an allegorical representation of the construction of this building and the Blue Salon with a side chapel.
The Casa de la Asegurada (17th century) with an art collection put together by the painter Eusebio Sempere with works from the 20th century (including paintings by Dalí, Miró and Picasso).

The monastery of Santa Faz from the16th century, can be seen with a beautiful Baroque portal and a hexagonal chamber inside where you can see paintings by Juan Conchillo and the reliquary shrine of Santa Faz.
The church of Santa María is a particularly beautiful Gothic-Baroque building from the 14/15 th century and the oldest church in town.
