The cruise line: half a century of luxury cruises
In the anniversary year 2015, Princess Cruises celebrated the big 50: exactly five decades earlier, the cruises line started out on the road to success - the ship Princess Patrizia set sail for the young cruise company for the first time. The Mexican Riviera was the destination back then. Today the luxury liners cruise to all continents of the world, from Alaska to South America and from Europe to New Zealand. Of course, Princess Cruises also has the beautiful coasts of Mexico in its program.
The cruise line enjoys a good reputation, especially among those passengers who want to see all the comforts of a modern cruise ship combined with an exclusive ambience. Cozy lounges, small cafés and restaurants offer plenty of privacy. Of course, the offers on board - in terms of leisure time, entertainment and onboard service - leave nothing to be desired. The company carries around 1.3 million passengers per year on more than 150 different routes to over 360 ports on six continents. Cruises around the world that last more than 90 days are also part of the program.
In 2019 the Sky Princess went on its maiden voyage. Since then, Princess Cruises has been sailing with 18 luxury ships. Two new cruise ships for the shipping company, the Enchanted Princess and the Discovery Princess have already been commissioned and will be completed in 2020 and 2021. The two ships are also being built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy. Today the cruise is based in Los Angeles and is part of Carnival Corporation & plc. This makes Princess Cruises an important brand of the World's Leading Cruise Lines and the largest cruise company in the world. The head of a sea witch with wavy hair is the distinctive logo.
Looking back: from Mexico to the top of the world
Stanley B. McDonald, a businessman from Seattle, had the brilliant idea in 1962: because there weren't enough hotel rooms in his hometown for the world exhibition that was taking place at the time, he used a passenger ship without further ado. As a floating hotel, it crossed the Caribbean and Seattle - and a visit to the exhibition was included.
McDonald had gotten a taste for it and finally laid the foundation stone for his new cruise line with the Princess Patrizia in 1965. The ship was the inspiration for the name of the company. As a comparatively small liner, the Princess Patrizia did not have its own laundry. This fact led to an anecdote that is popular today: in Acapulco, Mexico, the crew gave the guests' laundry to a local company - and received a large pile of unsorted clothes. The Princess crew put tables together in the ship's lobby and spread every item of clothing on them. Then hundreds of passengers collected their clothes one by one.
Of course, a lot has changed since this “dress code” in the year it was founded - and not just the dress code. Princess Cruises quickly became a pioneer among cruise companies with a steadily growing range and new luxury liners. Already in 1968 cruises to Alaska were added to the program. In the 1970s, the company achieved worldwide fame with the now legendary TV series "Love Boat".
The prototype for the German "Traumschiff" series was filmed on the passenger ship Pacific Princess, among other things. At that time, the company had long had one of the most modern and exclusive cruise fleets in the world. And it continues to expand: In 1981 the cruise line bought its first Caribbean island (Palm Island in the Grenadines) and opened the first lodge in Alaska in 1987. There, the company also commissioned the construction of the first panoramic glass train from Anchorage to Fairbanks. Shortly before, Princess Cruises had also opened up the Mediterranean. Many more dream destinations followed.
The US cruise line also sets standards in terms of environmental compatibility. For years, society has been careful to reduce the impact of cruises on the environment. During the lay times in the ports, the ships of the Princess Cruises fleet switch off the onboard diesel engines and switch to electricity from the mainland. A project that involves a great deal of effort. Among other things, this commitment earned the cruise line the Green Gateway Award from the Port of Seattle (USA) in 2014. Waste reduction, purification of waste water and the recycling of used kitchen oil to biodiesel are further environmentally friendly measures.
This green policy has long since arrived in ship design: the Royal Princess and the Regal Princess are built to be energy-efficient and use less fuel than their predecessors. Energy-saving concepts have also been implemented in the ship technology.
The fleet: 18 brightly shining princesses
Every ship of the cruise line is nicknamed Princess. It stands for the greatest possible comfort and luxury on board. With their elegant ambience, the luxury liners are intended for discerning guests.
The newest ship, the Sky Princess, has been in service for Princess Cruises since 2019. Like the Royal Princess, Regal Princess and Majestic Princess, it also offers space for up to 3,560 passengers. The dreamlike atrium, which is spread over three decks, is a real eye-catcher and the Sea-View-Bar Portside provides an impressive view through a glass floor into the sea. In addition to a fantastic wellness area and The Sanctuary (exclusively for adults), the sister ships also offer the exclusive The Enclave at Lotus Spa. Your own TV studio called Princess Live! Is an absolute novelty at sea and shows concerts, game shows and cooking shows.
The fleet again includes a ship called the Pacific Princess. The name is borrowed from the liner that provided the backdrop for the TV series “Love Boat” a few decades ago, but of course the ship is much more modern. Its maiden voyage took place in 2003. It is one of the smaller ships in the fleet and carries 670 passengers to the most beautiful islands in the Pacific. Greatest comfort in a manageable circle - that creates a fantastic feeling of space. Elegant dining rooms and specialty restaurants as well as 200 balcony cabins leave nothing to be desired, even on the “little ones” of the fleet. The ship was fully modernized in 2019.
The Sapphire Princess is a jewel at sea. The ship, which was presented for the first time in 2004, was renovated in 2018 and offers 2,670 passengers cruising at the highest level. It sails mainly in Asia.
The Sun Princess, Dawn Princess and the Sea Princess take up to 2,010 passengers to beautiful destinations. Due to the small number of guests for the size of the ships, they offer a great feeling of freedom and luxury. So if you want to travel to Australia, Europe and New Zealand, the Sea Princess is the right place for you.
The Caribbean Princess, built in 2004, offers 900 luxury cabins with balconies and an entire deck with mini-suites. The cruise line is thus setting new standards in terms of accommodation. The ship, equipped for 3,140 guests sails in Europe and Canada and is perfect for ocean crossing. It was also fully renovated in 2019. The Princess ships are perfectly adapted to their surroundings and destinations and, above all, to the wishes of their guests.
Swimming hotels: cabins on bord
Aboard the Princess ships, the rooms are sized for comfort and wellness atmosphere. The Regal Princess for example: the inside cabins are 16 square meters and have double or two single beds, shower, hairdryer, writing and dressing table, TV, WiFi, telephone, minibar, safe and air conditioning.
The balcony cabins offer even more space with around 20 square meters. Seating furniture on the balcony invites you to enjoy the view over the sea. It can get even larger - with the deluxe balcony cabins (21 to 27 square meters) and a cozy seating area. The suites on board have separate living and sleeping areas as well as walk-in closets. They are available as mini suites with a balcony (28 square meters) and as luxurious balcony suites between 41 and 60 square meters.
Even the smaller ships in the fleet are in no way inferior to the range offered by the flagships. They are just clearer in their dimensions, which is exactly how many cruise fans like it. The Pacific Princess also has chic inside cabins (15 square meters) and attractive outside cabins with portholes or windows (13 to 15 square meters). The premium outside cabins offer panoramic windows and almost 20 square meters of space. The balcony cabins are the same size, but with an outdoor space. Mini suites (around 30 square meters) and very spacious 70 to 85 square meters with balconies are also available on this comfortable luxury liner. The rooms on the other ships in the fleet are equally nicely furnished and wonderfully comfortable.
Food and drinks: New Orleans, Italy and sea
When you discover the world, you don't just travel with your eyes; your body and soul also want to be spoiled. Nothing could be easier than that aboard the Princess Cruises ships. As far as the art of the palate is concerned, you are in good hands there. The wide variety of dishes, snacks and specialties makes it possible. In addition, there is personal cabin service around the clock. A small menu with snacks awaits you in the cabin. Room service is also available for breakfast. The fortifying meal for the morning is then served at the desired time.
À la Carte Restaurants: classic or felexible dining
Bon Appetit at the main restaurants of Princess Cruises, where guests are spoiled with excellent 4-course menus. For each course you can choose between several alternatives; vegetarian dishes are also on the menu. By the way, the selection changes daily; and in the evening different dishes are served than for lunch. Set meal times (traditional dining) are possible at the à la carte restaurants. Ideal for everyone who likes to be on time and attaches great importance to a set table. Many passengers like it more flexible and book Anytime Dining. You decide anew every day when, where and with whom to dine for dinner. The beverage dispensers, which can be used free of charge, as well as the various drinks packages, leave nothing to be desired in this respect and help keep the costs for drinks within reasonable limits.
Specialty restaurants: look above the shoulders of top chefs
The specialty restaurants of the Princess Cruises fleet are unmistakable and varied. You can dine there in a sophisticated atmosphere (for a reservation fee). So change your surroundings every now and then while eating - and experience, for example, the finest beef steaks at the Sterling Steakhouse. There you choose the piece of meat you want and watch the cook prepare it ( aboard the Diamond, Pacific, Sapphire, Sea and the Sun Princess). In addition to tender beef, the Crown Grill also serves fresh seafood from an open kitchen, where top chefs give their best (aboard the Caribbean, Crown, Emerald, Golden, Grand, Majestic, Regal, Royal, Ruby and Star Princess).
New Orleans cuisine is a wonderful mix of French, Spanish and African influences. You can experience it the Bayou Café on board the Coral and Island Princess - including live jazz bands and unusual drinks.
Do you like Italian specialties? Then you have come to the right place at Sabatini’s. Mediterranean dishes and delicacies from the sea are served in a noble atmosphere (Caribbean, Coral, Crown, Diamond, Emerald, Golden, Grand, Island, Pacific, Regal, Royal, Ruby, Sapphire and Star Princess).
Casual dining on the ships of Princess Cruises
Noble multi-course menus and a stylish ambience are one thing. But you can also take advantage of the many opportunities on board to devote yourself to a good meal in an informal way. There are no formal evenings with a given dress code at the buffet restaurant or pizzeria: just dress as you want.
The Horizon Court buffet restaurant has a fine selection of dishes available around the clock. Depending on the time of day, you can pick your favorites. Aboard the Pacific and Royal Princess, the buffet restaurant is closed for a few hours overnight. On the Lido Deck, the onboard pizzeria prepares fresh and hot delicacies in the open air. Hearty snacks are hamburgers and french fries that are served on deck.
Drinks packages: endless enjoyment
Whether coffee, water, iced tea or tea - simply help yourself around the clock from the free drink dispensers at the buffet restaurant. If you want to enjoy your favorite thirst quenchers flexibly or have special drink requests, the drinks packages from Princess Cruises are a good choice.
With the Unlimited Soda Package you can choose from a variety of soft drinks. It applies at all bars and restaurants with drinks dispensers (except room service). The Unlimited Soda and More Package also includes a selection of non-alcoholic drinks such as juice, hot chocolate, root beer and non-alcoholic cocktails.
With the all-inclusivedrinks package you are on the safe side when you let your thirst decide. You can enjoy drinks as much as you like. In addition to soft drinks and non-alcoholic drinks, coffee, espresso, cocktails and a selection of beer and wine are also included in the price. Ice cream and some snacks are also included in the package (minimum age is 21 years and the package is not available on the ships Dawn, Sea and Sun Princess).
Coffee lovers may like to use the Coffee Card Promotion. With this package you can enjoy a selection of 15 coffee specialties and save money compared to buying it individually. All hot and cold drinks from the Café Selects menu are included (with the exception of Green Tea Fusion Smoothies).
Exciting combination of bar, shop und restaurant: the wine bar
On Deck 5, on the piazza of the ships Caribbean Princess, Crown Princess, Emerald Princess, Golden Princess, Ruby Princess, Star Princess and Sapphire Princess, the Vines Wine and Seafood Bar awaits hungry and thirsty guests at any time of the day with fine wines and excellent coffee specialties ready. The Vines Wine and Seafood Bar, which, with its dark wood paneling and wine barrels as high tables, is reminiscent of a rustic wine cellar, impresses as a great combination of bar, shop and restaurant, which offers numerous wines and fresh seafood as well as great cheese and delicious meat delicacies, sushi or offers tapas. Many of the excellent wines are available at the adjoining shop, as are books on the subject of wine or high-quality products from the cooking and fooddepartment.
Leisure time on board: enjoy life to the fullest
Cruise passengers have known for generations that travel educates. Because body and mind dive deep into new worlds and regions, because life on board brings something new every day and because nice encounters with new friends are possible. Lotus Spa: wellness in harmony
Let yourself be pampered for a day on your cruise, be it after exercising or after extensive excursions on land. A variety of treatments are available at the Lotus Spa. For example, rejuvenating facial treatments, gentle massages in combination with hot stone therapy, Ionithermie cellulite reduction or pampering sea packs - including algae and a mixture of pine and rosemary oils. Acupuncture sessions are also possible for better balance and a pleasant feeling of wellness. You can find them on almost all ships, with the exception of the Dawn, Pacific, Royal, Sea and Sun Princess.

Shopping, casino and auction: lucky moments on bord
Sometimes there are important things that you just don't have with you. If you have forgotten something at home or have lost something, you will surely find it at the onboard boutiques, which have a large selection of everyday items. Of course, the shops also offer beautiful mementos, gifts, souvenirs and international designer brands. You can shop duty-free at the duty-free shop. Jewelry, accessories, fine fragrances and cosmetics as well as fashion are also available at the boutiques.
The casinos spread a strong touch of Las Vegas with their gaming tables from roulette to poker, the most modern slot machines and tournaments. Game courses help beginners get started.
With Princess Cruises you can also get on the trail of fine art. In this case are not meant the impressive cultural excursions ashore, but the art galleries aboard the ships. At art auctions, many attractive works come under the hammer during the cruise. And that at good prices.
Families and children: everyone gets their money's worth
Princess Cruises makes a vacation at sea an unforgettable experience. This applies to adults, but also to the younger guests on board. With its own children's and youth program, the cruise line complements the already attractive leisure activities on its ships. The range of fun and entertainment is stimulating and exciting. Trained staff look after the youngsters - divided into different age groups - throughout the day. Fully equipped children's and teen centers are available on almost all ships in the Princess fleet. The smaller luxury liner Pacific Princess is an exception. A childcare program is also offered there (from 20 children).
Fun Zone
There is the pulsating center for children between the ages of three and twelve. The Fun Zone is fully equipped with everything you need for exciting games, watching films together, theme parties, scavenger hunts, educational games and PC games. The youngest passengers are divided in two age groups: as Princess Pelicans (up to seven years) and Shockwaves (up to twelve years). The age groups may differ on some ships.
Teen Center
The teenage room on most Princess Cruises ships is the perfect place for teenagers to get in touch with their peers and do something together. Music, card games, Playstation, films, karaoke or table tennis - the offer is diverse. In the Teen Center, too, the supervisors are careful to offer age-appropriate activities. That clears the way for entertaining pizza parties, talent shows, sports tournaments or dance parties and hip-hop courses. That certain something is waiting for you on board the Grand and Golden Princess: Both ships have a whirlpool and sun deck, which are reserved for young people only.
Babysitting Service
Parents also want to be alone on board. For such hours there is the babysitting service (for a fee) aboard almost all Princess ships, with the exception of the Pacific Princess. Supervision takes place in groups for children between the ages of three and twelve and is possible from 22.00. to 01.00 Reservations can be made on the day in question until 20.00 at the Fun Zone.

The sea-land tours (cruisetour) are beautiful combinations of seafaring and extended tours on land. This means that even cruises lasting several days are possible in the destination countries. Such tours lead to the interior of China, to the southwest of Ireland, to Machu Picchu in Peru or to the mountains of Alaska.
Shore excursions: plunge into full life
Princess Cruises makes it as pleasant as possible for its guests at sea. But the cruise line is also turning up on land to ensure that passengers have a great holiday. With the subsidiary Princess Tours, guests in Alaska go on extensive discovery tours. Princess Cruises has its own lodges in Alaska's beautiful natural surroundings. Using Alaska as an example, it is possible to understand how the cruise line maintains its destinations and makes them even more tangible: Alaska vacationers are offered a lot of authenticity because Princess Cruises enables encounters with shrimp fishermen or lumberjacks and brings regional specialties to the table. On excursions with experienced tour guides you will get to know the country and its people, the regional culture and enjoy the natural beauties on site. Snorkel on the beaches of Tahiti, explore Boston, USA, or take a bike tour of a Norwegian fjord. German-speaking shore excursions are also possible on selected cruises.
Entertainment on bord: fun under the starry sky
Of course, everything can be experienced during one night; dancing in the open air, attending the cinema and theater, having a drink in a cozy lounge and a live concert. Princess Cruises makes this possible with its entertainment program aboard the luxury liners. But you can also take it easy throughout the cruise, after all, there is a lot going on every evening.

Trust the good customers reviews
The fact that the expectations aroused by the comprehensive range of Princess Cruises are more than fulfilled is also shown in the numerous positive reviews in the experience reports of the passengers. User Lisa raves about the "long-awaited dream vacation" in the kreuzfahrten.de forum. Lisa, who was traveling in the Caribbean, praised the "incredibly beautiful route with great islands" and the "particularly favorable ratio of days on land and sea."
User Niklas, who traveled with the Emerald Princess, is enthusiastic about the quality of the ship: “Everything is very, very clean and elegantly furnished. The interior was rather classic in contrast to the other ships I have sailed with so far (including AIDAluna, Costa Fortuna, AIDAaura). ”And Niklas was also more than impressed with the food on board:“ The meal was a dream. At the main restaurant as well as at the self-service restaurant the food left nothing to be desired, nothing was missing. Breakfast and dinner at our main restaurant was amazing. The finest gourmet food, special requests were gladly accepted. There is nothing more to say. Simply great. At least 5 stars. "
"Very clean and comfortable with enough space (also in an inside cabin)", is the positive review of user Helga Gabriele about the accommodation. She was particularly fond of the "sweet evening gift" in the form of a small chocolate figure - just a nice gesture."

Important information
Gratuities
You enjoy your stay at the specialty restaurant, by the pool or at a bar, you feel well looked after by the cabin steward or you know your children are in good hands at the youth centers. Would you like to reward the good service of the employees with a gratuity? Princess Cruises makes this very easy with a daily flat rate that you can adjust up or down at your discretion during the cruise. The nice thing about this system: the gratuities are shared among all employees on board. Even among those who strive for the well-being of the guests, but whom you often don't see in person. With the flat rate, the matter remains fair.
Smoking
Of course, smokers can enjoy their tobacco on board; but this in the specially designated areas and specially set up bars. Smoking is not permitted in the cabins, on the cabin's own balconies or at the restaurants, bistros, lounges and theaters.
Pregnancy
If the 24th week of pregnancy is over at the time of the cruise, a pregnant woman will not be allowed to join the cruise. From the perspective of the cruise line, this is not possible because of the risk of premature labor. If you are not that far, you need a confirmation from a doctor in English that the mother and child are fit to travel and that the pregnancy is not at risk.
Minimum age
Children traveling to Alaska, Europe, Canada, New England, and the Caribbean and Mexico with their parents must be at least six months old. For all other cruises, a minimum age of one year applies. Please register baby cots before departure. As a general rule, passengers under the age of 21 may only take part in the cruise if they are accompanied by a person over the age of 21.
Telephone and internet
You can also be reached at sea. There are telephones on board. You can also use your own mobile phone (roaming charges). You have internet access on all Princess ships, for example at the internet café which is open 24 hours a day. You can also use your own device to dial into various public areas via Wi-Fi. Princess Cruises offers various paid internet packages.
Special deals & benefits for loyal guests
After the first cruise, Princess guests become members of the Captain’s Circle Club. If you are part of this group, as the holder of the Princess Gold Card, you can count on attractive benefits and attentions as of the second cruise with Princess Cruises. For example, with invitations to exclusive events and discounts. Holders of the Princess Platinum Card enjoy, among other things, preferred check-in and receive credit when purchasing internet packages. Holders of the Princess Elite Card (as the 16th cruise or more than 150 cruise nights) receive a number of additional services and discounts.
