Tangier is located in the bay on the west side of the Strait of Gibraltar and is an important ferry port between northern Morocco and the European mainland. The port of Tangier is the second most important port in Morocco after Casablanca. It is about 4km from the city, but there are taxis and a train connection to the city.

In the center of Tangier lies the Place du 9 Avril 1947, also known as "Grand Socco", which is surrounded by several cafes and restaurants. In addition, jugglers and fairy tales enliven the business. The beautiful minaret of the Sidi Bouabid Mosque, built in 1917, decorated with colorful tiles is worth a visit. In the neighboring Parc de la Mendoubia a large collection of old cannons from Spain, Portugal and Morocco can be visited. On a hill above the port is the old town with the "Petit Socco" (small market). From there, the rue de la Marine leads to the Grande Mosquée. Behind the mosque, a view terrace overlooks the harbor and fortifications from Portuguese times. At the northern end of the old town is the Kasbah, with the Dar el Makhzen, the former Sultan's Palace dating back to the 17th century, where today the Musée de la Kasbah with its former treasury, an archeological and artistic department is housed. From the vantage point in the north of the Kasbah, the coast of Spain seems to be approaching in clear weather. South of the Medina, the modern boulevards Pasteur and Mohammed V invite you for a stroll.
