The city of Vancouver is located in the province of British Columbia on the west coast of Canada and is the third largest city in the country with its 2 million inhabitants. It was named after the British officer George Vancouver, who had surveyed the region in 1792.
In 1885 Vancouver became the terminal station for the transcontinental railroad and grew steadily thanks to the economic upswing triggered by it. In 1986 the Expo 86 (World Exhibition) took place in the city.
In Vancouver, people of many ethnic origins and diverse religions live today. In addition to the "Chinatown", the city also has areas dominated by Indian ("Little India"), Japanese ("Japantown") or Greek ("Greektown") influences.
